well, i certainly tied one on this halloween weekend. lesley and i dressed as elves (pics soon) and got set to hit up three parties saturday night. i should have known how it was gonna be when i didn't eat dinner. no dinner + about a keg of vodka spells trouble! so we went to kirsta's party which was really fun. there were folks dressed up as hot muses. there was also a mummy and someone dressed as a dead ian curtis. :( from there, we went to danny's party which was a riot, lemme tell you! he was the spittin' image of jerri blank from strangers with candy. hilaaaaaaaaarious!!! also, some girl was dressed as oscar the grouch with trash can and everything. she was so drunk that she fell over in her can and had to be scooped up be laughing onlookers. truely entertaining. we aslo talked with a very sweet gay man in drag as a vampire - his contacts were super freaky! and one dude was an ipod!! from that party, we staggered to brent's house. i don't really remember much of his party except being obnoxious and claiming to lose my phone (lesley had it). we also talked to jacob - dressed as team ziszu, smoked dereck's cig, and i think i kissed a coworker!
all in all it was a great night. the hangover was wretched, though, so i won't gross you out with the details. suffice it to say, i watched i think five movies yesterday and didn't get off the couch except to go to the, uh, powder room.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

last night me and les watched this fantastic movie called The Tunnel. it's a german movie from 2001 about the berlin wall. these people who were in west berlin dug a 145 meter tunnel (facing possible collapse or even jail) under the wall to rescue their friends and families. it was really facinating and i totally recommend it to everybody. hey, if it can keep lesley awake til 12:30, you know it's a good film! the only thing is the lead guy looks like bruce willis and that was kinda distracting.
tonight i'm going to see a play, The Evolutionist's Club. it's at the Exit Theater, and i'm excited about it.tomorrow night, muchas partying!!

Oh, Anne, how could you?
People, listen to me. Lesley told me about this and I didn't believe her. Anne Rice has gone back to God. She's now been quoted saying that she "will only write for the Lord now." And she says that she'll only write in the voice of Jesus Christ.
"Christ is the ultimate supernatural hero - the ultimate immortal." - Anne told this to some poor reporter. I can only imagine how difficult for him/her it must have been to not fall out of the chair laughing. I know that she is traumatized by the loss of her husband and that she's been sick. She also must be really affected by Hurricane Katrina, but geeze Anne, you don't need to take it that far!
Lestat is rolling in his tomb.

This is the sound I woke up to. Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i may seem like an alcoholic, but if i don't get a mixed drink, hopefully something fruity, i'm gonna unload on all y'all.

i had a ton of this stuff today - it's called pizza. have you guys ever tried it? i also listened to the new Margaret Cho, called "Assassin." i swear she's more of a lesbian than i am. we should all be more like her. and there's a new gal in town, Lady Sovreign. she's the new MIA so check it out. that's the news from Ameebs and i'm out.

grad school applications are killing me. i am ready to stab my eyes out and become a garbage collector. that's all i can really think about right now. if anyone has anything to cheer me up, please send it my way.

last night i saw tortoise. it was one of the best shows ever. i got free tix from work and took my friend brian. when we got there, we ended up with VIP passes, so we wandered upstairs at the Independent, and realized we were in a little balcony overlooking the venue. it had like a bay window seat with pillows. finally i could see everything at a show!!
unfortunately we might have missed a couple of songs, but tortoise played for a good hour - all the hits. they even played my favorite song.
then daniel lanois took the stage with tortoise as his backing band. he was more than i had hoped fore. he's famous for producing a bunch of albums in the eighties as well as being brian eno's partner in crime, but i had no idea what an amazing guitar player he would be. i don't usually care about things like that, but this guy was off the hook. anyway, it was mezmerizing and another great show in the city.

last night we met up at Millenium for damon's birthday party. a shout out to john, carlos, jay, sal, belinda, nick, andrea, damon, luiza, jeff & lesley! whew! anyway, i had some of the finest vegan food ever - and too bad i had a fever, i could have enjoyed it a little more. but super (supper) fun and good convo as well.
i also got an invite to danny's halloween party - well, sir, you're on!! i really need a costume, though. anyone have any suggestions??? the only thing i can think of is karate kid, but i always say i'm gonna be that and then it doesn't work out. i need help people!!
tonight i'm going to see tortoise, which will be awesome i'm sure. tomorrow it's all about seeing Alien Motel (www.cuttingball.com) if you like going to the theater for free, you should check this show out.
word.

she rose from the depths of the stage, draped in harijuku girls and perched on this throne!

gwen stefani was totally awesome last night! she sang i think every song on the album, so you know, there were a couple of duds, but overally it kicked ass! hooray for pop culture!

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

so tonight lesley and i will go see gwen stefani in san jose, and black eyed peas are opening. i really hope that fergie pees her pants cuz we have really good seats! i'm so psyched to see gwen!! B A N A N A S!!!!

i'm not going to talk about apple's new revelation - the ipod video or whatever it is. i'm not going to tell you how badly i want one, or how it makes my normal 20gig one seem like a cassette walkman. i also won't talk about how cool it is that they come in black.
there.
but today's latest obsession is how i can download my favorite show LOST to my work itunes and watch it on lunch! it's $2 an episode, and i think that's a good deal. so today i jammed in the headphones and escaped to the deserted island.
did i mention that i love my desk job?

last night i hung out with rock stars.
jesse and i went to see The Dirty Three, and if you don't know them, you should. they are an band out of australia led by a guy named waren ellis. he plays violin, and they create some of the most intense, heartbreaking, overwhelming music i've ever heard. last night's show was fantastic!
so, after the show we stuck around wondering how we could meet them. normally i wouldn't do such a thing, but my friend jesse wanted to thank them for something. see, last december she had to have a pretty serious operation so my friends and i staged this huge benefit for her - to help pay for the medical bills. well, we wrote to the dirty three because they are one of her favorite bands. we asked them to play the benefit - hey why not?! they wrote us back saying it would be impossible due to their tour schedule but sent us tons of stuff to auction off (we were having an art auction).
so anyway, she wanted to thank them for contributing. well, we knew the door guy so we ended up getting back stage. it was such an "almost famous" moment! we walked down the hall til we saw "dirty three's dressing room" written on a slightly open door. we looked at eachother, shrugged, then pushed our way in.
it was a typical rock'n'roll scene. small, dim room filled with smoke and kind of smelly. she walked up to warren and proceeded to tell him her story, and he said "of course i remember - how are you feeling?!" well, we all chatted for a few minutes and then she said that we'd be taking off. he goes "why don't you have a drink with us?" ha!! so we had a beer and sank into the couch. 45 minutes later we were leaving wondering what the hell just happpened.

ok people, unless i hear from someone else, my friend ANDREA is the winner of one coctail of her choice. she didn't get the answer completely right, but i've heard from some others that most people were pretty stumped.
here's details on the answer:
the quote was spoken by john goodman to his brother. it happens in Raising Arizona right after they accidentally left behind nathan junior after holding up that store. you know, the old timer is at the counter and evelle is buying diapers.
evell - you know how to put these things on?
old timer - well, it's fairly self explanatory. just around the butt and up over the groin area.
ha ha ha!!!!!!!
also, the bonus answer is frances mcdormand who is married to one of the cohen brothers.

Check out these pix of funny girl, Amy Sedaris, from her latest photoshoot. I swear they are both her.

ok, here's the first quiz:
the first person to correctly identify this quote wins my eternal devotion or something.
you have to leave a comment with both the film title and the character who said it. and no cheating with imbd!!

"Goddammit Evelle, you never leave a man behind!!!!"

bonus question: which actor in this movie is married to the writer?

i went to a marketing workshop tonight and here are some of the phrases i was subjected to:

1. find your "ooh-aah" factor
2. the three f's: follow up, follow up, follow up
3. you have to plant the seed before it can grow

ugh. i kind of hate that shit, but i did learn some good stuff that i can use for Cutting Ball.
did i mention i was one of four people there?

Monday, October 10, 2005

songs i can't get out of my head:

1. back in the saddle again
2. that person song by rufus wainwright
3. land down under or whatever it's called by men at work. i've been thinking about this song since we were in brussels.
4. do you really want to hurt me
5. say say say

work shmerk!
today i just couldn't handle going in to work. i decided to call in. it was nice in sf - actually almost hot. i guess this is our week of indian summer we've been waiting for. i did have to go to the dentist, though, which is usually worse than even going to work. this morning i learned that i have to get my wisdon teeth pulled!!! this has been a fear of mine for a while, and i'm really not looking forward to it. they said they could do it right then, but it was all too fast for me so i made an appointment for two weeks from now. coming to this blog: ANXIETY ABOUT TEETH PULLING!! i'm sure i'll be thinking and writing about it a lot.

tonight i went to and-mon's house with lesley. sal was there, and so was bobby. we ate a shit-ton of pizza that damon whipped up and it was delicious. he always makes insane pizza that is so good and i always want to eat more pieces but i'm too embarassed. we talked a lot about our future bookclub that might be called Table For One. i have some good ideas, so hopefully soon this thing will be for real. bobby said we could make it into a tv show on public access. we all got hollywood lights in our eyes then, imagining how fun it would be to be on tv! pretty soon andrea hooked us up with a huge bowl of yummy apple crumble desert and i was in heaven. there house is always so warm and homey. i hope one day lesley and i can be grown-ups just like them.

oh my god i know that EVERYONE loves this show, but i freakin' love it. i just got the dvds and have been watching the first season again. i forgot how awesome it is! and now i don't even have a tv to watch the new season on, so i've had to resort to nerd-forums and podcast recaps. what a loser i am!!! but anyway, it's the best show since freaks and geeks. fo' real.

so, carlos says that this is ugly. i am posting this pic because i'm in mourning of the time i almost owned this scooter. instead, i will purchase the more regular looking honda elite, but i still think this one is pretty badass.

i have a burning question:
i was just wondering, people, how much money would it take for you to sample your own pee?

i like this picture of the playwright, Jean Genet. i've been thinking about him a lot lately because we just finished casting our next mainstage show, The Maids. it's a great show about two murderous maids who are sisters, slightly crazy and full of loathing for their mistress and for themselves.
Genet himself was a pretty interesting character. it was well-known in his day (the 40's) that he was a homosexual, and that made him both a deviant and an intriguing person. Jean-Paul Sartre was a big fan of his, as well as a friend. Genet was also a bit of a miscreant. he was arrested several times, and in fact, Sartre bailed him out of jail on one occasion. some of Genet's best writing was actually written in his jail cell.
my final thought on all this is that as the french are always more exciting and intelligent, Genet is one of my favorite playwrights. you go, homo.

James Dean, did you ever know that you're my hero?

this is what my car looks like, by the way.
i guess the pix are working now.
maybe my day will get better.

so this morning is such a monday morning. i arrived at lesley's work to get my car out of the parking garage where it had been stored for our european vacation. it was about 8:45 this morning. too early for bullshit. so, i climb in the car, turn the key, and nothing happens. it's dead. motherfucker.
this is why i bought AAA, probably the most adult decision of my 30's thus far. i called them, and then headed into the mini mall across the street to wait around. i bought a yogurt drink from safeway, sat down and read the examiner for 45 minutes. there was a blurb in there about a covered wagon that had overturned and injured 18 people. what year is this?
so the dude shows up - it's always a dude - and he gets my car started in like 30 seconds, thank god. i head off to was that grimey car, shoot through the automatic car wash, and arrive at amoeba 1 & 1/2 hours later than i thought i would.
also, my coffee spilled all over my hand.
and i tried uploading an image of my car, but it wouldn't work.
GOOD MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
